Our Story

Meng Mountain Books, named after a small peak in Northeast Thailand just outside the city of Khon Kaen, is a small independent publisher founded by Tim and Suttawan Bewer. The titles we publish – primarily Thai art, history, and culture – reflect our personal interests. And while we created the business to sell some of our books, we look forward to resurrecting out-of-print historical texts and sharing other voices.

Born and raised in Udon Thani, Thailand, Suttawan graduated from Khon Kaen University with a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology. But she wanted to see more of the world than just a laboratory, so she returned to KKU to study anthropology and got a master’s degree in Mekong Studies. She is also an artist and a writer.

Tim, who hails from Wisconsin in the USA and has lived in Thailand since 2007, once worked primarily as a travel writer and photographer, including contributing to nearly fifty travel guides for Lonely Planet over the years. He studied political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, though his stint inside the political realm was short. Few things intrigue him more than Thai temple art.

จากยอดเขาภูเม็ง ซึ่งอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่จังหวัดขอนแก่น ได้กลายมาเป็นชื่อของ เม็งเมาน์เทนบุคส์ สำนักพิมพ์อิสระขนาดเล็กที่มีผู้ก่อตั้งคือ ทิมและสุทธวรรณ บีเวอ โดยหนังสือส่วนใหญ่ที่สำนักพิมพ์เผยแพร่จะเป็นเรื่องเกี่ยวกับศิลปะ ประวัติศาสตร์ และวัฒนธรรมไทย ซึ่งเป็นความสนใจโดยส่วนตัวของผู้ก่อตั้ง และนอกจากหนังสือที่ทางสำนักพิมพ์ได้จัดทำขึ้น เม็งเมาน์เทนบุคส์ยังพยายามคืนชีพให้กับหนังสือรุ่นเก่าที่มีคุณค่าและหาได้ยากโดยการนำมาจัดพิมพ์ใหม่ให้คนรุ่นหลังได้อ่านกัน และสำนักพิมพ์ยังเปิดโอกาสให้คนอยากทำหนังสือดีๆ มาร่วมแบ่งปันความรู้อีกด้วย

สุทธวรรณ บีเวอ เกิดและเติบโตที่อุดรธานี ก่อนเดินทางมาเรียนที่มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นในสาขาเทคโนโลยีชีวภาพ คณะเทคโนโลยี และจากความสนใจที่อยากมองเห็นโลกกว้างกว่าทำงานในห้องปฏิบัติการทางวิทยาศาสตร์ เธอจึงกลับไปเรียนต่อ ป.โท ด้านมานุษยวิทยา และจบในสาขาลุ่มน้ำโขงศึกษา คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และสังคมศาสตร์ ปัจจุบันเธอเป็นทั้งนักวาดภาพประกอบและเป็นนักเขียน

ทิม บีเวอ มาจากรัฐวิสคอนซิล อาศัยอยู่ในประเทศไทย ตั้งแต่ปี 2007 โดยทำงานเป็นนักเขียนด้านการท่องเที่ยวและการถ่ายภาพ รวมถึงเขียนหนังสือนำเที่ยวให้กับ Lonely Planet เกือบ 50 เล่มเป็นระยะเวลาหลายปี ทิมเรียนเกี่ยวกับการเมือง ที่มหาวิทยาลัยวิสคอนซิน-เมดิซัน แต่เขาสนใจทำอาชีพด้านนี้เพียงระยะเวลาสั้นๆ สิ่งที่เขาชอบส่วนใหญ่จะเกี่ยวกับงานพุทธศิลป์
